Our Best San Diego Backyards

Our Best San Diego Backyards

Designing backyards in San Diego is so much more than just choosing plants, hardscape, and elements that look good together. For starters, every client that we have the opportunity to work with with has their own unique ideas, style preferences and goals for their space. In addition, all yards are different from a topography standpoint. We haven’t even mentioned client lifestyles yet – families? entertaining lovers? gardening enthusiasts? athletes? We have to consider all factors when it comes to designing the perfect outdoor living spaces for our clientele.

When you have a backyard that you actually enjoy spending time in, your lifestyle changes. From hosting more gatherings to spending more time in the garden, to opting to stay home versus going out – you’d be surprised to find many intrinsic benefits of landscape renovation.

From backyards that are perfect for throwing parties to outdoor living spaces made for kids to grow up in, we think you’ll love these incredible projects that we’ve had the honor of designing and bringing to life right here in San Diego. Now just sit back and enjoy as you scroll through a few of our favorite backyards.

Sage Highlands

This gorgeous outdoor living space was inspired by dreams of sitting at a Tuscan winery during golden hour. The homeowners wanted plenty of outdoor space for both relaxing on a mellow night and entertaining friends for the best parties. They also have a young child at home, so having a backyard that was both safe and fun to play in was important to them. This Poway home has the perfect blend of sleek and rustic elements while considering the homeowner’s favorite pastimes and their growing family.

Having a sustainable yard was important to this family, so we made some eco-friendly upgrades throughout the space. We incorporated bio-swale to keep drainage water onsite to help prevent water runoff, which is much safer for the environment than the alternative. We also installed a new sprinkler system that uses 60% less water than traditional sprinkler systems. Both of these upgrades are not only beneficial for the environment, but they save this family money on their water bill every single month.

To keep all members of this Poway family happy, we added a sand pit, custom swing set, and even poured a custom sidewalk that is perfect for racing bikes or scooters. Not only is this yard aesthetically pleasing, but it is functional and perfect for their growing needs.

Other design elements:

– Seating walls were installed throughout the outdoor space for entertaining

– Custom pergola with rustic chandelier

– Fire pit installed at the perfect angle for enjoying sunsets

– Full outdoor BBQ design and installation with sleek waterfall edge

– Installed Chilean Mesquite and fruitless olive trees

– Poured-in-place concrete walls

– All new concrete walkways and patios

– Eco-friendly upgrades

28th Street

We were thrilled to help these South Park homeowners renovate their historic Spanish-style home. The backyard at this house is incredibly unique due to the fact that it was nestled in a canyon and had mixed elevations and retaining walls dating back 100 years. We had to get pretty creative when coming up with this design and it took a few different drafts of designs and renderings before we were able to create a space that perfectly executed all of the elements they wanted, while seamlessly flowing from level to level.

Entertaining was very important to this family, so we knew we had to create an outdoor space that was inviting and well-thought out to allow guests to transition through the various levels of space we were working with. We came through and delivered with an incredible Mangaris deck complete with an outdoor kitchen and dining area made for entertaining. Not only did they have a gorgeous barbecue in their outdoor kitchen, but we also added a functioning sink, fridge, and outdoor bar complete with a television and speakers to keep their guests entertained throughout the night.

 Other noteworthy elements:

– Leveled yard

– Landscape lighting throughout

– Concrete countertops

– Pergola with canned lighting

– Pool design

– Outdoor fan

Tzena Way

Our team truly enjoyed turning this Encinitas backyard into a gorgeous coastal oasis. This family wanted a beautiful outdoor living space to entertain, relax, and garden in while also having plenty of space for their children to play in.

We had to start this project by removing a large amount of overgrown plants and brush from the hillside. We also had to remove their old patio so we could repour it to perfection. As you can see, the new concrete panels gave the outdoors a fresh, contemporary look, while also being incredibly functional.

One of our favorite elements in this Encinitas home is the gorgeous redwood we incorporated in their decking, fencing and seating throughout the space. Redwood is amazing for withstanding different weather elements, which is very important for coastal homes like this one. Not to mention, it looks stunning along the greenery in this yard.

Other design elements:

– Custom-poured jacuzzi

– Grass and irrigation system

– Landscape lighting

– Premium drought-tolerant plants throughout
